Stephan LaCasse, BC-based Singer-Songwriter
Stephan LaCasse is an Acoustic Singer-Songwriter living in Roberts Creek (xwesam / Stelḵáya) on the Sunshine Coast of BC. A veteran of the Toronto music scene, LaCasse traded the "literal fast-lane" of the city for the West Coast in the summer of 2022, seeking a creative fresh start in the "terroir of the land of 60s draft dodgers, artists, and hermits."
In January 2023, LaCasse released his debut solo record, Whiskey Creek Surf Shop Blues. Recorded in a two-week fever dream in an unfinished garage—with a propane heater hissing in the background. The album was born out of necessity during a period of life transition. The result is a collection of "Noir Canadiana": songs that feel like they belong in a "side-dimension" between a lonely corner pub and a misty drive up the coast.
While the album began as a "clearing of the shelf," it has since become the fuel for a marathon run of live performances. Since its release (through end of 2025), LaCasse has played over 160 gigs across the region. From intimate brewery sessions and backyard BBQs to performing for thousands at the Coquitlam Water Lantern Festival, he has honed a live set that swings from "vocal-centric campfire fare" to high-energy, stomp-clap anthems.
LaCasse’s sound is defined by a "fresh, confident voice" that can shift from soft and dark to bright and powerful on a dime. His lyrics sway from the sharp, poetic observations of a songwriter to the "winking self-awareness" of a performer who isn't afraid to add a little camp to the folk formula.
