Sunshine Coast Singer-Songwriter Stephan LaCasse
|
Genre: Acoustic Singer-Songwriter / Indie-Folk
For Fans Of: City and Colour, Gregory Alan Isakov, The Lumineers If you listen closely to Stephan LaCasse’s debut album, Whiskey Creek Surf Shop Blues, you can almost hear the propane heater hissing in the background. Recorded in a two-week sprint in December 2022, the album was born out of necessity. Holed up in an unfinished garage in Roberts Creek, BC, with a distant view of the ocean and no clear path forward, LaCasse recorded like his life depended on it. It was a "creative fresh-start"—the sound of a veteran Toronto musician finding his footing in the "terroir of the land of 60s draft dodgers, artists, and hermits" on the West Coast. LaCasse describes his sound as Acoustic Singer-Songwriter with a pulse. It is music built for the "side-dimension"—that specific atmosphere found in a lonely corner pub or a misty drive along the coast. Yet, beneath the stripped-back acoustic guitars and high "blue-grassy harmonies," there is a winking self-awareness and a stomp-clap energy that demands attention. Since the album’s quiet release, it has fueled a marathon run of over 160 live performances in three years. From intimate brewery sessions to playing for thousands on festival bandstands, LaCasse has road-tested these songs into a tight, emotionally connected set. With a follow-up record due in spring 2026, LaCasse is currently celebrating the sleeper success of Whiskey Creek Surf Shop Blues—a collection of songs that proved that sometimes, the only way to move forward is to stop, panic, and hit record. |
